The Classic, The Spectrumand Silver eagle are models from Whites metal detector co. I have a Whites Classic ID. It was about $550 dollars and is a middle class machine. The spectrum is much more top class. Ive found some old large cent coins from 1801. I also found a 1865 shilling in a corn field.

Always wanted to get into these things. There are so many battle grounds near my house from the Revolutionary war. I live between the Princeton battlefield and Trenton. There is one battle that took place two streets away from my house. They were replacing the bridge a couple years back and disturbed the surrounding soil while doing so. My barber took his detector over there and found gold buttons and other items from the war. Neat stuff.

haha sorry i didnt even read the sentence with the coins :( but did you ever find anything crazy or anything?

Your never too old to try anything. It can be expensive if you want a machine with top notch discriminators( discriminators filter out junk metal). You could start out with a Whites Classic 1,2 or 3. These run around $175-$250. The Bounty Hunter line has some good models but your going to pay around $200 for a good one. Stay away from those ones from Radio Shack, They are made by Bounty Hunter but are crappy. If you get a cheap one you will get frustrated with it. As far as what ive found, Just those old coins and lots and lots of modern pocket change. Finding a place to go that isnt posted is getting hard to come by, I have a few corn fields that I have permission to use. I get tons of quarters from the local football stadium that I sometimes work at. People drop so much change under the bleachers. Do some research of your area to find historical artifacts. I live near 2 revolutionary war battle fronts Saratoga and Lake George but I could be arrested if cought metal detecting in some of these areas. Give it a try, Its fun. E mail me if you want to know more about it.

oh i was joking about the too old bit ;) hm if i ever decide to buy one ill ask you for advice...but here in germany we dont have radio shack anyways, so there's probably different models from the ones you get there...but here in europe you can probably find lots of historical sites :) theres prolly more roman coins in the ground here than there are credit cards in the states heha
